Journal 3
My preceptor had to be out of the office so I had the permission of the Director of nursing to sit in a meeting of unit managers. This meeting was very interesting. The managers were sharing with each other their different experiences and what helps to make each others work a little easier. The Vice President of Nursing Operations was also there to explain in detail the new employee evaluation process. This meeting in my opinion was a good one because the managers got to share ideas and it even helps to create more cordial relationships amongst themselves. Some of the managers that I spoke to were also very happy about the meeting and the new things they had learnt. it was a day well spent.

How long was the meeting? Was the meeting a new phenomenon? From your description of other managers' reactions, it doesn't sound like it was a regularly scheduled meeting.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what does a VP of Nursing Operations do? I've never heard that title before. Interesting!
The meeting was for about 3 hours and according to one of the managers I spoke to it was not a new phenomenon. But she said that in the past it had not been held in such a systematic order as this one turned out to be. That is why I used the expression "other managers' reactions" and this meeting is said to be held not so often but I did not get the exact times when they are held.
ReplyDeletePoint of correction. Her title is actually VP of patient care services and chief nursing officer. She is responsible for the overall strategic, operational, clnical, regulatory and financial performance and success of the nursing services of the hospital.
